Graffiti – Stockholm Subway Stories

The Stockholm Metro (Swedish: Stockholms tunnelbana) is a metro system in Stockholm, Sweden. The first line opened in 1950, and today the system has 100 stations in use, of which 47 are underground and 53 above ground. There are seven lines numbered from 10 to 19, in three groups identified by a color: the Green, Red and Blue lines. Each color line has two or three numbered lines on shared sections through the Stockholm City Centre.

Since the mid 1980s, the Stockholm Metro has been seriously affected by graffiti. Previously a train on which graffiti had been painted could remain in service for weeks and graffiti could remain in place at stations for months if not for years. Here are some of them …

A little girl on a plane

A congressman was seated in first class next to a little girl on an airplane.   He turned to her and said, “Do you want to talk?   Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.”The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, “What would you want to talk about?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” said the congressman. “How about global warming, universal health care or stimulus packages?” as he smiled smugly.

“OK,” she said. “Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first.   A horse, a cow and a deer all eat the same stuff – grass.  Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty but a horse produces clumps.  Why do you suppose that is?”
The legislator, visibly surprised by the little girl’s intelligence, thinks about it and says, “Hmmm, I have no idea.”

To which the little girl replies, “Do you really feel qualified to discuss global warming, universal health care or the economy when you don’t know crap?”
Then she went back to reading her book.

Things we Like – My favorite things

Everyday we form opinions about things we like, don’t like and even don’t care about. For example, Our favorite foods, singing the favorite song, hanging out with the guy/girl we like and so on… These are a few of my favorite things. 🙂

9 AWESOME BENEFITS OF SWIMMING

The Benefits of Swimming are numerous and well-documented, but some of us still haven’t taken the plunge and added a few laps to our workout routine. Maybe we need a gentle reminder of a few of the benefits of swimming to change our minds! I’ve done some digging, and chatted with my personal trainer, and he had some advice tips to share. Here are 9 awesome benefits of swimming.

1. IT’S PERFECT FOR PEOPLE WITH BALANCE ISSUES

If you’ve ever suffered from vertigo, you know how debilitating it can be when you’re trying to exercise. Not so with swimming! Your balance won’t be an issue in the water, unless it’s caused by an inner ear infection. If so, be sure to use ear-plugs, then dive right in!

2. IT WON’T HURT YOUR JOINTS

One of the key benefits of swimming is that it’s low-impact, which means it won’t hurt or harm your joints. This is particularly helpful for people who suffer from back pain or arthritis, since getting better and combating and preventing pain often mean exercise. Swimming’s perfect!

3. IT’S GREAT FOR YOUR HEART

Swimming is also an excellent source of cardio exercise, since it keeps your heart thumping without (as mentioned above) the stress on your joints. Marvelous!

4. IT’S A WHOLE-BODY APPROACH

Even aside from the cardio, swimming is great for an entire-body workout, one that falls into the category of “non weight-bearing.” It helps build muscle tone and flexibility.

5. YOU CAN DO IT YEAR-ROUND

When most of us think of swimming, we think of outdoors in a lake. But another benefit of swimming is that you can actually do it year-round… most communities have an indoor pool you can use.

6. IT’S INEXPENSIVE

Joining a swim club or signing up for swim aerobics classes is often less expensive even that a gym membership, so even if you’re on a budget, you can still reap the many benefits of swimming. To join the pool at my local school, it’s only $12 a month. That’s only about 30 cents a day!

7. IT’S RELAXING

Swimming can be relaxing. It’s rhythmic, and the sound of the water is beautiful. I find that often, even when I’m stressed, the rhythm of the strokes and the sound of the water can calm my nerves, help me shut out the world.

8. YOU CAN WORKOUT WITH YOUR FAMILY!

I hate paying my gym to watch my daughter while I work out, but it’s a necessary evil. However, I don’t have to pay anyone to watch her while I swim because she can swim with me! I’m always very careful to make sure I’m paying close attention to her… and we love it!

9. IT’S FUN!

If for no other reason, swimming in beneficial because it’s fun. How often do grown adults have the chance to splash each other and instigate a water fight?

Swimming is fantastic! Now that you’ve seen all of these incredible benefits of swimming, will you give it a try? Why or why not?

The Blue Lagoon Iceland – Energy for Life

The heart of Blue Lagoon’s operation is at the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s most unique and popular attraction. Guests enjoy bathing and relaxing in Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin. A visit to the spa promotes harmony between body, mind and spirit, and enables one to soak away the stresses of modern life. The spa’s guests rekindle their relationship with nature, soak up the scenic beauty and enjoy breathing the clean, fresh air.

The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most visited sites with more than 400.000 visitors annually. The bathing lagoon is 5000 m2. At each time the lagoon holds six million liters of geothermal seawater all of which is renewed every 40 hours. Blue Lagoon’s guests actually bathe between two continents as the Euro-Asian and American tectonic plates meet at the Blue Lagoon.

The Tale of the Racist Airline Passenger

This happened on TAM airlines.

A 50-something year old white woman arrived at her seat and saw that the passenger next to her was a black man.

Visibly furious, she called the air hostess.

“What’s the problem, ma?” the hostess asked her

“Can’t you see?” the lady said – “I was given a seat next to a black man. I can’t seat here next to him. You have to change my seat”

– “Please, calm down, ma” – said the hostess
“Unfortunately, all the seats are occupied, but I’m still going to check if we have any.”

The hostess left and returned some minutes later.

“Madam, as I told you, there isn’t any empty seat in this class- economy class.
But I spoke to the captain and he confirmed that there isn’t any empty seats in the economy class. We only have seats in the first class.”

And before the woman said anything, the hostess continued

“Look, it is unusual for our company to allow a passenger from the economy class change to the first class.
However, given the circumstances, the commandant thinks that it would be a scandal to make a passenger travel sat next to an unpleasant person.”

And turning to the black man, the hostess said:

“Which means, Sir, if you would be so nice to pack your handbag, we have reserved you a seat in the first class…”

And all the passengers nearby, who were shocked to see the scene started applauding, some standing on their feet.”

SHARE IF YOU ARE AGAINST RACISM!

Brief Analysis
While the story has recently resurfaced on Facebook, versions of the tale have circulated since at least 1998 and have been set on several different airlines in several countries. There is no evidence that the incident described actually took place on any airline. The tale is almost certainly apocryphal.
